What are some irrefutable identity primitives that can be attributed to anyone to be used for proof of personhood? Other than a name.

The mutual connections in a person's social network? Feels like we're at the cusp of this being machine readable with open protocols like Farcaster & EFP

Yup. Social graphs. Perfect.

At the risk of being labelled a contrarian here 😮 can I disagree again? https://philipsheldrake.com/2022/03/we-need-to-talk-about-the-social-graph/

Not at all. I appreciate contrarian opinions. I like a lot of stuff in this article btw. A lot of it resonates. But are you disagreeing that social graphs will play a big role in web3 identity or are you disagreeing with how they are being built now?

"social graphs" is used in two ways. I always use it in just the one, i.e. sociometrically, a quantitative method for measuring social relationships. In more casual parlance it's also used by people interested in the design of social networks as a synonym for what the person on the street would call 'who I know'.

In sociometric terms, if some digital approach to human identity is predicated on a derivation from a social graph, then this is unprecedented in the history of our species, and as Moreno himself figured out 90 years ago, very unlikely to be a good thing. We need to maintain humans-in-the-loop / cognition-in-the-loop.

But any technical implementation of social graph, in any context, is fuelled by and depends on people's interaction with in (or with an app that employs it) yea? The design of it, what it incentivizes, what it rewards, etc. is what usually presents the problem. Current algorithms are design for max profit extraction.
