I don't deny this but what I'm seeing play out in practice (adjacent to why progressives are losing elections): Not actively condemning Nazis at every opportunity = tolerating Nazis Getting exhausted from keeping up with all the latest condemning narratives and not signaling the virtue at the right moment = ... ... = Everyone is bad except for the 9 people whose whole identity is hating Nazis

Progressives have really never won elections in the USA beyond a token race here or there.

I keep wanting to make a quip like this but not sure about it yet: Expected outcome from "Nazi Bar Parable": All the bars are full of people, there are no more Nazis Actual outcome: All the bars are empty, everyone outside is considered a Nazi

I assume you're familiar with the nazi bar parable? https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Nazi_bar The premise is "the only way we get rid of nazis is by not allowing even one among us", the desired outcome is to have no nazis in society by doing this. But the reality is that language is malleable, people are manipulative, society is fickle, everything gets weaponized. People are constantly getting accused of being nazis for the dumbest things (having a bored ape, being in crypto, what have you). The actual outcome is that people weaponize "the nazi bar" parable to push out anyone they don't like, and those people don't just magically disappear from society. They have to exist somewhere, so they continue to exist in places that co-exist with nazis (both actual or falsely-accused). Now we're like "well if you're willing to co-exist with nazis, then you're a nazi", so everyone outside of the bar is de-facto nazi. Eventually, the purity test becomes so intense that the bar is just the proud owner.

I wasn't familiar with it so thanks for linking that. I guess the way I feel is that, like disease and other things in life, we have to somehow get at the root causes of what makes someone susceptible to Nazi ideals, rather than just treating the symptom. While punching Nazis is good fun, it doesn't do this, and like you said they just end up existing elsewhere.

💯 Punch people who are actively doing nazi things to people, rather than people who are accused of being nazis. I'm also tired of people getting dragged for having ancestry who were nazi-associated. (For the record, I'm of jewish ancestry, my grandparents physically fled from nazis chasing them.)
