Should we rebrand Warpcast to Farcaster?

We separated Warpcast (the app) from Farcaster (the protocol) a few years ago. 

We've heard from many new users that this is very, very confusing. People hear about Farcaster, search in the app store, can't find anything called Farcaster and then churn.

Ok crazy idea but hear me out: Make Farcaster compatible with atproto, become the first full alternate AppView to BlueSky with sovereign identity on ENS and built in payments and mini apps.

A doodler and computerer. I like permissive/permissionless open source, smart contracts, p2p systems, room-scale VR, and NixOS.

Had a dream that Farcaster & Bluesky merged. Got me thinking, what would the best from each look like. As in 1 + 1 = 3

Hard to swallow right after Snapchain and all that, but can imagine a world where Farcaster takes a substantial chunk from the BlueSky audience, and at the same time forces BlueSky to adopt more crypto native posture if successful.

In the end, maybe a more plausible battle than trying to break in from the sidelines.

You'd be surprised! I mean you're right about the sentiment but I think a bit part of it is meeting people where they are.

The biggest criticism of BlueSky from its users is lack of a credible alternate AppView. It's a hefty piece of infra and if BlueSky disappears it's unlikely that the network will continue to operate. MM might be well positioned to take a counterposition here (with x5 more funding no less).

If it's compatible, messages would federate and there's no risk in trying out all of the special perks you get from using the Farcaster AppView ecosystem (ENS, payments, miniapps, etc).

Positioning would need to be nuanced but I think we're getting to a very compelling offering here even for non crypto natives.

i think we would get instant organ rejection from atproto community :) they are very anti-ai and anti-crypto

Yea, IMO Mastodon is a dead end outside of organizational structures. Might make sense for news orgs to host a mastodon instance but it doesn't make sense for individuals to join random instances, inevitable rugging.

I self-hosted a Mastodon server just for myself almost 2 years ago. It is clunky, and almost everyone you talk with is some degree of insane zealot. People aside, I don't think Federation is the right social media solution.

If Farcaster could communicate with ATProto w/o compromising their structure, I'd be for that.
