So, here in Canada the only thing that has kept our economy growing is an unsustainable level of immigration (gross gdp is up, per capita gdp is down).

Canada's GDP is just the real estate industry in a trench coat (something like almost half is made up of real estate adjacent industries), the US's GDP is much more diversified.

(This is one of the reasons why comparing GDP growth across countries as a metric of success is silly, especially in Canada's case.)

Yea. US spends huge amounts of money on things Canada doesn't (military and health insurance are obvious examples). There's lots of ways to scale toxic industries that produce positive GDP growth, not just by pumping the housing token.

I can also imagine a scenario where the US government’s spending on deportation costs helps to grow GDP.
