So, here in Canada the only thing that has kept our economy growing is an unsustainable level of immigration (gross gdp is up, per capita gdp is down). If the US deports a bunch of people, why won’t that crash the economy?

Canada's GDP is just the real estate industry in a trench coat (something like almost half is made up of real estate adjacent industries), the US's GDP is much more diversified. (This is one of the reasons why comparing GDP growth across countries as a metric of success is silly, especially in Canada's case.)

Canada is very much dependent on the natural resources. Immigration is a key to our success (I'm biased as I'm an immigrant). But more importantly, training and creating an AI-first workforce will be the best investment right now.
