seems that within the tech zeitgeist there is a growing trend of salaried employees who really only pretend to work - doing at most a few hours per week, obfuscated by Zoom, LLMs, outsourcing and naturally covered by layers of bureaucracy in the typically large company they work for. what does this mean for the future? is this just a lagging zero-interest rate phenomenon, or is there something more fundamental?

Taking the other side here: if the company doesnt even realize you dont do your work, is the work even needed anyway :D

that’s not the other side, we’re making the same point - unless you’re attempting to rationalise the behaviour itself

Yes I am rationalizing the employees behavior in that regard, most people realize pretty quick if their assigned tasks actually contribute to anything or if they're just useless, so can't really blame them imo

Can't blame them if they report that discovery to management or quit. But, taking advantage erodes one's integrity and pushes the needle towards a low-trust society.

Yes that would be in an ideal world but the average worker on salary likely does not care about that stuff
