Last night our bird club successfully summoned the spirit of the northern flicker. We’re hoping this ups the species’ chance of reproducing in our 9-acre NYC park for a second year in a row.

Northern Flicker!! What’s your favorite bird you’ve ever spotted(?) Did you hear Flaco died? not particularly into birds myself but a big animal lover in general

Hooded Oriole was the bird that got me. I’d lived in sf 10 years w/o noticing one. They’re around (esp in palm trees) every spring/summer 🧡

Oh I’m remembering another bird I keep up to date with regularly! There’s a swan by the water near Astoria park and Hallet’s cove who is a loner. There’s 1 swan couple he hangs out with sometimes but he has no mate/flock so chills around near the geese. He doesn’t fit in and looks very lonely and sad. 😭

I know there’s nothing I can really do to help him, so I’ll whisper encouraging things to him under my breathe hahaha I’m really hoping he comes back when the weather is warmer with a mate 💜 Also, when it’s stormy, giant herons come over here to catch fish and I’ve seen them fight in the air at night
