Last night our bird club successfully summoned the spirit of the northern flicker. We’re hoping this ups the species’ chance of reproducing in our 9-acre NYC park for a second year in a row.

I’m in NYC! 

In the wild east coast I’ve recently spotted:
- the aforementioned hawk(?)
- The brightest blue jays at my friends backyard in Long Island.
- Big community of wild monk parakeets in Astoria.  
- cutest flirting between cardinals in CT

Oh I’m remembering another bird I keep up to date with regularly! 

There’s a swan by the water near Astoria park and Hallet’s cove who is a loner. There’s 1 swan couple he hangs out with sometimes but he has no mate/flock so chills around near the geese. He doesn’t fit in and looks very lonely and sad. 😭

Hooded Oriole was the bird that got me. I’d lived in sf 10 years w/o noticing one. They’re around (esp in palm trees) every spring/summer 🧡

During a farcaster photo walk meet up in NYC we ran into this giant hawk?falcon? near fidi who also looked like he was living it up! @usersteen.eth do you happen to have a photo of the bird?

I did. Sad news around here. Consolation is that dude lived his last year uuuuup 🤘😭
