took the cat out for a short 5–7 minute walk today! she really didn’t want to leave the house, i had to convince her with treats. once we were out though, she did a great job staying calm and didn’t claw to get out of her carrier when we got home (huge win for us). a few weeks ago, we had a scary moment on public transit. a gaggle of teenagers were yelling threats and she hid quietly in her pouch inside my coat. she could definitely feel how fast my heart was beating, and i think she’s been carrying some of that stress too. for now, i’m planning to reintroduce her to outside time really slowly. she seemed a little extra skittish today, and i don’t want to push her too fast. trust is everything when walking with a cat *especially* if they get startled easily. if that trust snaps in a scary moment, it can be dangerous, so i’m trying to be extra mindful. curious if anyone else has had to “rebuild” outdoor confidence after a bad experience? would love to hear any tips or stories! 🫡

I would say cover the backpack when leaving the home until find a peaceful spot outside. Then take over the cover and just relax out in the space Let the sounds slowly become normal I then open my backpack and let my cat come out at her own leisure. Sometimes she won’t want to come out but most the time will explore as comfortable Leaving the backpack open allows her to come back and jump in if it’s “time to go” and builds trust it will always be available as a safe place
