would need to explain onchain. (i should have mentioned the one-liner being for someone who hasn’t touched any blockchain)

If we buy the analogy of a smart contract being a sort of vending machine, then the act of minting is like putting cash in the vending machine and then waiting for a widget to fall out. In this case, the widget is a token. 

Minting = buying tokens from a vending machine that also manufactures tokens
