When sati (the act of a widow sacrificing herself by sitting on her husband’s funeral pyre) was abolished, many women were abandoned by their families. Forced to fend for themselves, they turned to prostitution and other arts of seduction as their only means of survival.

These are so beautiful and I have about a million questions! To list just one, I'm curious about the name 'Sundari', which for me evokes Tripura Sundari, one of the tantric goddesses from the Mahavidyas.
