I want to start staking but stubbornly can’t bring myself to buy a PC.

Good intention but the network decentralization doesn't care of os/hardwares.

As long as you are home staking, you would help the network in the better way possible, regardless of the OS/Hardware.

I also want to help diversification of hardware and OS on the network

I don't think there are inherent issues, i think doing that way you would take a big risk of slashing 

Even if it can run full time, do you want it to be NVME/proc/ram charged 24/7 with one task ?

I think a Mac os very cool at doing many things !

Yep @dai get an Intel NUC or any mini PC. A mac is overkill and a waste of your money for this. Think of this as a utility, you’re never going to interact with it directly or do anything with it other than keeping it running (and you can VPN from you mac anyways to do this).
