The openai being bad at naming models thing used to be quirky but itβs reached the point where as someone that actually follows frontier model development I have no idea what model is what anymore

I don't disagree, but a compromise would have been GPT-3.5 -> GPT-4 -> SPT-1 (not GPT-4o) -> RPT-1 (not GPT-o1) and each could have a "non-scientific" moniker like "Theseus" -> "Hercules" -> "Baldr" just like macOS
