Budgie smugglers jokes aside; Democracy sausages refer to the sausage that you buy at the polling venue. It’s usually a couple of ‘gold coins’ ($4 theses days) for a sausage on some white bread and bbq or tomato sauce. If your fancy there maybe some onion. The money goes back to some cause in the local community.

It’s a great Australian tradition and if your polling venue doesn’t do it you’re entitled to stand in line complaining about it the whole time. There is a crowd sourced map every election for the polling venues that have them https://democracysausage.org/federal_election_2025/
