finally tried these big big pancakes they make here in Japan. these ones have ricotta cheese whipped up into a meringue in the batter. super delicious. as somebody who's not normally a pancake fan, I found it's quite wonderful 

served with a side salad and a potato, bacon and egg gratin

in general, i think pancakes are completely foul 

whereas on the other hand, this was a fluffy, delicate, ricotta pancake dreamland
