I like what Duolingo did with streak freezing. You'll inevitably miss a day or a few once in a while due to life. By exchanging points that you earned for freezing the streak it gives you a way to be more relaxed once you've advanced in the "game". At some point I deprioritized Duolingo so freezing wasn't enough. Lost my streak and haven't used Duolingo in a while. Such is life.

Just yesterday, I was contemplating how Duolingo and Snapchat gather data from users motivated to maintain their streaks. This information allows them to conduct behavioral experiments and create detailed user personas. It’s fascinating how every company has essentially become a data company.
