Fun first. Imagine slay the spire or any epic deck building game. It can simply be fun. Then web3 can reward farming rare cards and trade them on an open market — and most of this securitization can happen out in the open, even by third parties — the dev could extract fees via an L2 or inherent in the NFTs, etc.

and esp. if rare cards are more “intriguing”than “better” those who purchase will do so for the rarity or uniqueness rather than ruining the game like early experiments with buying equipment in Diablo etc.
