controversial that there are no bike lanes, but Broadway in lower Manhattan is similar and I find that traffic is usually pretty calm

Bike Lines in commute based cities and economies without the proper replacement offerings for car drivers that can’t bike fuck up more then they help

can't speak to those German cities, not much context

but it's worth understanding that part of the *intention* of installing more bike lanes is to make driving worse

when traffic gets worse, people will choose alternatives instead

that in turns leads to the system rebalancing itself. eventually traffic calms down, and you end up with a more efficient system where the average space needed per person is significantly reduced

this only works if there are alternatives in place to pick up the slack. in NYC, I can say that the alternatives are pretty well developed. not sure about Munich or Frankfurt

well the alternatives do exist there also though they are underdeveloped for the amount of traffic at peak
