Farcaster protocol metrics are meaningless when Warpcast — the largest client by far and which is developed by the same team as the protocol — is full of shenanigans Why lead with reporting/cheerleading such meaningless metrics? https://warpcast.com/dwr.eth/0x0f27efb0

Good question. But the answer is gona be that all the other guys (Twitter, Instagram, etc) are also reporting meaningless metrics so nothing to see here. When cheering about the growing DAU metric on FC, I’d love to see some attempt at breaking down how many are qDAU vs spam.

Seems like people are working on solving that problem - @geoffgolberg , @jtgi @sayangel - none connected to merkle but the beauty of permissionless means anyone can jump in and solve Wouldn’t call the metrics meaningless- think that goes too far. But does help to put additional context before blindly cheering

The big issue is how to control for quality at the protocol level. If it can’t be solved there, then it falls on each client, WC being the dominant one. It’s also about the incentives that are in place. We all know why all these farmers are here. They have good incentive to spam, and WC let it happen.

I agree in sofar that you will have spam like you have spam on Base, Ethereum and any open system. Though I disagree that Spam can be treated at protocol level. I'd love to see a solution that works at protocol level but thing the more pragmatic is client level. Where I take issue is that one centralized API will do

Currently most of Farcaster is either Warpcast or a single API provider which luckily the API provider is neutral. For spam management and filtering there likely out of history of big tech will only be 1 max 3 providers. SO you centralize all clients that don't go around on the hard path to use them
