A lot of chatter recently about Farcaster, marketing and expanding beyond crypto I have yet to see a crisp definition of: 1. What problem does Farcaster solve for people outside of crypto today? 2. What evidence exists that existing at-scale free social networks and paid creator tools / platforms are insufficient in serving these people? 3. Assuming this population exists, what channel (i.e. tactics) do you market Farcaster to said people? I'm not asking for free work, fwiw. It's our job to figure to this out (we don't have an answer for this question ourselves). But hiring a "marketing team" when you don't have an answer to this question is not going to solve the problem. Marketing works great when you have a clear value prop and target market and channel.

I agree w.r.t. a marketing team. Paying for users before PMF is a road to nowhere. But is the implied assumption here that farcaster's best channel to grow is through crypto? I don't agree with that at all tbh. If anything, I want to see way less "crypto content" and way fewer "crypto ppl" as a percentage of overall content/users. I don't like that it's all crypto, all the time here, and anyone in my social circle that I invite would say the same. And to be honest, that has kept me from inviting many of the ppl that I know would enjoy FC otherwise.

but to answer your questions... 1. for users: it's the best place to meet, talk to, and read discussions from people who are interested in the same topics and communities as you. for app builders: solve the cold start content problem, build hooks into another app ppl check often, and create a mini social network around whatever you're building. for channel owners: build your community outside the control of any one platform or government, easily monetize, and build mini-apps / experiences around that community with an open data set / api. 2. ppl use social networks to solve different needs. I "use" twitter to read the latest tech gossip and political BS. But I still use Farcaster because it's friendlier and that's where my friends are. Both can co-exist. 3. Market /djs to every pro dj who wants a forum to discuss with other djs. market tabletop to board game enthusiasts. market gardening to gardeners.

Why is it better than subreddits today? If I'm interested in a topic, why is the Farcaster channel better for me as a consumer right now than an active subreddit?

reddit feels techy and outdated, even though the info/data in subreddits is great but you need a marketing person to define your strengths, as well as a community person, as well as a designer - there’s your marketing team 😅

that’s the founders job and to dans point, it’s not a storytelling problem. Consumers don’t demand crypto maxims.
