How much platform risk is a founder taking by building on Farcaster? Very significant iyam... The full article is also a great read: https://medium.com/@lucarestagno/ive-sold-my-4th-saas-as-a-solopreneur-the-backstory-4e6195c305be

Biggest platform risk rn imo is probably from depending on proprietary apis/indexes. Everything else is technically open, but if you need to get off them at some point, it might just be too much work to keep you nimble and in business.

Yes, exactly: what if the API becomes private. And it’s not that they’d do it NOW; but it’s a risk, same as it was with Twitter: bye bye clients.

Why would infra businesses make their APIs private? What’s the business then?

So you’re saying building on ethereum is a huge risk because alchemy can shut down their business? Or building on the web is a huge risk because Amazon can shut down AWS? Doesn’t make sense to me, you’re comparing consumer shutdowns to infra companies

So, you're comparing ETH with FC in terms of decentralization and you say it's the same thing? Like... really? 👀 Building on the web it's not a huge risk, building on Amazon IS a risk. Companies fail and go bankrupt, the ETH blockchain is harder to shutdown. This is also why we came here, not? The only current gateway to FC is Warp. Warp is underpowered and the first interaction anyone has with the FC protocol is lame when looking at the features - at least compared to the trad social platforms they're used with. So, as a builder: your only option is to build an app that does better than Warp (easy) and onboards ppl while competing with the most visible, the ONLY onboarding app in the ecosystem, that's below average. That's what I'm thinking. PS: What would MM do when someone builds that app, having traditional investors and a web2 structure? What did Twitter (traditional investors, web2 structure) do in a similar situation? 👀

the risk there is just timeline, ethereum is 10 years old now you could have said the same thing about ethereum in 2016 and www in 1995
