“If I’m young, hot, and/or rich, why would I spend time in a metaverse where everyone else can be that more easily?” - a friend of mine, on why she’s bearish on the metaverse - Would love to hear people’s thoughts on this. She was particularly referring to Meta and VR (not AR)

Lol like I mean majority of the world isn’t hot and/or rich. Most VR users are gamers and young Also NFTs proved that you can flex 6 fig digital assets (jpegs) Really a minority case in this specific context

Great point re: digital flexing being >= physical flexing! I brought that up with her as well. - Her main argument was that “the only people who will spend a lot of time in the metaverse are those who like it more than their real lives),” which limits its upside in her eyes (1/2)

The way I like to frame her counterpoint is this: aspirational technologies make people’s lives better and are positive-sum value adds. The metaverse seems to lots to be a zero-sum game because by nature it’ll always be enjoyed relative to and compared to someone’s irl life (2/2)
