Chris Dixon’s vision for crypto, laid out in Read Write Own, captures why I got into crypto: free (self-owned/libre) software & open protocols. Read Write Own is widely available in stores (go buy it!), so it’s a good time to break down why Chris’ vision resonated.

If you own a bookstore, you can predict the foot traffic on your block, get to know your customers, and assume a stable sales tax, but if you’re a blogger (or any creator) these assumptions are increasingly not true.

Today “foot traffic” is determined by esoteric algorithms while customer relationships are mediated by social networks. Platforms like Apple, Youtube, and Facebook take 30% to 100% of creator profits.

The digital world is part of the real world and real people make their livelihoods online. If you want to learn how blockchain networks can shift profits to creators via open protocols and digital ownership, I strongly recommend Read Write Own.

Love the image of enabling digital town centers/stores - reminded me of this podcast about Open Store. https://youtu.be/Mz15wvYkajM Not cryptoenabled but…made rang in my mind
