I've been thinking about lead magnets for in person events for /humankind and I think I'm going to give away $5 gift cards instead of a discount. Here's why: - The mental model of a gift card is better for customers instead of discounts, because there's usually pressure to buy in XYZ timeframe with discounts. - People feel like they want to use up gift cards no matter what the price is $5, $10, $2 etc. - The $5 gift card is actually a lower discount that I would normally give (think 8% off instead of 10% off) - I collect email addresses and push them through a funnel to purchase if they don't convert immediately. If they do, hey, 8% discount. I still make a bigger margin. A national sporting goods store does this but they give away $30 gift cards instead. So I think I will do this too.

It’s a good idea. Just make sure they’re not prepaid gift cards.
