The active badge is going away.

Spammy accounts are aggressively gaming the system to get the badge. 
Making the rules stricter just makes it harder for legitimate users.

We’re past the point where a simple rule based system will work. We need something better.

1/ power badge reinforces the need for 'reputation' in social networks and communities. it helps align incentives of the users/community towards meaningful/quality engagement. fighting spam becomes a byproduct.

3/ we've been working on an open-source ranking/reputation system that lets developers create their own quality or spam users list in a few minutes. It's pagerank, but open source (OpenRank).

4/ while a global ranking is useful at a network level, we also need personalized social graphs and rankings contextualized to your own extended network versus a global network voice.

5/ warpcast recently launched Pagerank type algo, which is a great step forward. More clients and apps building on farcaster should be able to use and modify their own ranking/algo layer.

6/ we envision a public infra layer for farcaster devs to build better and personalized feeds, apps, clients, airdrops, frames, etc.

7/ we don't think a single ranking logic/algo will win, nor one client that owns this. we need many folks to experiment with their own ranking algos and apply it for their own context - without having to worry about spending $$ or time on running and maintaining the data, compute and analytics pipelines and infra.

8/ all devs working on farcaster are welcome to try OpenRank APIs, we'll be there 24/7 to make your life easy until you find value 🙏

2/ it's evident that just a count of followers, likes, comments doesn't signal quality. 'Who' engages with you matters more than just 'how many' engage with you. it's great to see we're trying to use solutions that have worked before (pagerank).

What if posts get assessed for quality content through community up voting and commenting... once it hits a certain threshold, people are awarded badges.  There can be levels/plateaus that users work towards and they get filtered up a pipeline.
