I’ve been taking time to assess what I really want in life, and what is important to me. One thing I’ve realized is that I can’t live in a place where the natural environment is trashed like this. I don’t care if my earnings potential is cut in half. These are photos from Austin’s main trail. It would be like if the Jackie O in Central Park was filled with garbage.

I think Texas has the least percentage of public land combined with Austin’s resistance to any kind of change (there was a move to transfer management of barton springs to a non government co-op that defeated by nimby propaganda) but also since the government is essentially being hollowed out most places will start to look like this

Ironically from what I understand government action has made this problem worse. Camping ban enforcement (however sporadic and random) has pushed more and more homeless into what few parks and woods there are. So you get this rampant trash in the woods, and poop buckets on Shoal Creek bike path (pictured)
