But what’s that get you? It verified the file hasn’t been changed but it doesn’t promise persistence, right? More importantly, does this stop you from using moshicam?

They can but do they? Sincere question. I’m trying to navigate the things we hold sacred in the face of building things that mainstream audiences use. If persistence of media depends on me pinning it, how is that different from S3? Or is it that you appreciate even the option to pin it which S3 doesn’t provide? Do you pin things you mint that are on ipfs?

Is there a way to auto-pin everything in your wallet?

It wouldn’t be difficult to script something to do that. Loop through wallet holdings, pull metadata, pull image url, for urls using ipfs, pin.

fair question

1. moshicam started off as a weekend project. if there's overwhelming demand for IPFS we'll migrate.

2. the top bug report at gallery, to this day, is broken assets. things get unpinned from IPFS all the time. even if it's pinned, it's incredibly hard to fetch arbitrary content from the gateway on-demand

3. ironically, at gallery, we're using a GCP bucket to cache IPFS content and work around above. turns out our bucket is actually hosting many of the assets that are no longer available on IPFS!

4. let's be honest – we're so early rn. this project might die next week. our #1 priority is to build a product people actually use, and reward users + border creators
