Brin was born in Moscow in 1973 in a Russian Jewish family. His father is a professor emeritus of mathematics at the University of Maryland and his mother is a researcher at the NASA Space Center. Sergey Brin's family immigrated to America from the Soviet Union when he was only 6 years old.
