Drove an electric car for the first time on vacation last week. I didn’t like it. Taking your foot off the gas is basically the same as hitting the brake. I’d get used to it if I owned one, but it was an unexpected experience.

That's a setting you can change on most cars. It sounds like it was set to "one-pedal" driving for max regen. You can also set it to feel much more like an ICE vehicle (and use regular brakes.) I prefer one pedal, but I can definitely see it being a little jarring for first time EV drivers.

Many cars even have paddle shifters to change it on the fly. The one pedal mode is good (once you're used to it) because then your brakes can last the life of the vehicle and you extend your range.

I definitely got used to it by the end of the trip and had trouble drinking my regular car initially when home
