Help me understand: isn’t solar a dead end? The sun doesn’t always shine, we need to 10,000x our battery capacity to run the world on solar, and we’d be strip mining the Earth for those battery metals. 

Nuclear is the only way. Obsession with solar only furthers oil (see Germany).

Yes, nuclear is better than fossil and coal power plants should have been shut down instead of nuclear plants but shutting down nuclear caused only a temporary increase in the burning of coal.
