Who has a book collecting problem and the unread pile grows faster than you can read? This is one of those books in my pile. 'The Language of Art - An approach to a theory of symbols'. The book is a systematic inquiry into the variations of symbols; letters/words/texts, pictures, diagrams, maps and models.

if a book can be judged by its cover - I need this book! Your description makes it sound enticing, too. Thanks for posting 333 $degen

I can't vouch for the text yet, but it does seem to have potential. I agree the cover is great... but I've found from random digging through thrift book stores there are some great covers from this era with texts that don't fit what you hope and imagine from the cover design.

Thanks. Still looks enticing esp the theory of notation. Even poor writing can be useful if someone has spent time researching their area in depth, and generally this book gets good reviews. Are there illustrations?
