To avoid whoever controls the compute controlling the world: We either need to lower the compute costs of models or have democratic access to compute. The former seems more doable based on positive scientific progress and negative democratic progress. This also doesn’t take into account defense. In this scenario my gut says each country has a bunch of compute in deadlock with other country’s compute that they’re spending on defense at all times.

I think we go sparser, but due to R1, I have to update my priors about MCTS and specialists going depth-first search in latent space. I think video is almost too good as a data source, but I think real practical usecases will need more deterministic components. wired - World Computer inspired - World of Experts
