there are ~65k stars (256 ‘galaxy’ level nodes operating as governance roles, ~4.3b ‘planet’ level nodes for individual human users). stars are long term slated to be infrastructure level providers, helping with packet routing and peer discovery (this function is currently handled by galaxy nodes).
