Sad reality is this isn’t new. 

Crypto conferences have explicitly chosen to not use these technologies for their own event or with the vendors they hire.

Ticketing, payments, comms, prizes, etc.

Caveat: unless the conference is specific to exactly that chain, companies being the primary conference sponsor and forcing all vendors to use their chain is the scummiest of scum and should be called out everywhere it happens.
