A pretty gross pattern from Google Photos: they block access to your media on their platform until you’ve given them complete access to your entire camera roll. I had an Android for many years before switching to iPhone and stored my media in Google photos. They are now holding those photos hostage. Ugh.

that's pretty weird. if you do want to switch providers, you must have access on web, right? (fwiw I have all my photos on google photos as well, have always given it permission so didn't run into this edge case)

The issue with giving them permission is they will instantly ingest all of my photos, scrape the location data from the metadata, and sell it to advertisers. No thanks!
