It’s pretty incredible how good people are at sniffing out resource scarcity and “status” markers People absolutely speedrunning the: “whoa Farcaster is pretty cool” ⬇️ “wait why don’t I have an active badge” ⬇️ “kill Dan and everyone he puts on the auto-follow list” cycle rn

it's unfortunate that everyone is conditioned for follower numbers. i think with the current social landscape, that metric is totally useless at best and misleading at worst i don't think i'm on the auto-follow list and i still get tons of what appears to be non-human followers which renders the number pointless to me

hard agree here we're often like "when number go up" when we should be like "why number go up"

active badge, on the other hand, is still useful but probably could use some more tuning. there's a more tangible meaning to it than "number big good." ideally, it would mean "this person contributes in a net positive way to the convos here and is worth following." this encourages ppl to get on that level

for sure @ilemi is doing some good work here (and we hope to help him) to make a public calculation that apps can use to quickly determine this kind of metric

it's a tricky calculation (⌒_⌒;) do u do it reddit style based on peer upvotes/reactions (can be gamed) or have ai sift through content (can be biased) or ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ idk

every model is wrong but some are useful 🫡 We’ll make something shitty, figure out why it’s shitty, and make it a tiny bit better the next time (repeat until god-adjacent)
