I don't entirely agree with the whole "if you're not pissing someone off you're doing it wrong" mentality. People are generally meant to get along. The tech and social space are so detached from care.

i always interpret it as "there's someone that will be pissed off no matter what you do", and never as "you have to piss someone off" the bottom line is if there's nobody pissed off, it probably means not many people have heard about you and therefore there's a lot of room for improvement (i.e. "you're doing something wrong")

it's usually the second mindset though which is the problem. it's possible, while more difficult, for people to hear about you and have few outspoken haters
