Prediction markets have resonated with me since I started in crypto 12 yrs ago. It was initially bc I was a degen & wanted quick cash. Now I’m using prediction markets daily not to bet but as an info consumer to better understand the world.

Augur, Veil & others failed. Polymarket now working. How can we accelerate?

i expect any market that gets big enough to get shut down by the US govt. whats different about polymarket that makes it work?

Polymarket blocks U.S. customers and uses crypto to reach non-U.S. customers in non-custodial manner

The CFTC regulates prediction markets in the U.S. and views most market types as illegal. They are being sued by Kalshi and smart lawyers believe there’s a strong case.

Kalshi has a license with the CFTC though -- hence the lawsuit. Bolsters @grin's point.

Every contract they list has to be approved by the CFTC because of their license. Didn’t this all start because they submitted a few contracts around which party would control Congress and were rejected?

The lawsuit has nothing to with their license.

The CFTC deems certain markets to be illegal, at their discretion. They’ve deemed political markets to be illegal. Kalshi is challenging this, and more broadly the CFTCs broad power to define illegality, in the courts.
