In video calls, do you default to camera off or camera on? Why?

If we are familiar enough to call each other on phone, no camera needed. Funny how that is a rare thing now. If it’s a group, i.e., would have been an in person meeting — then camera on. Caveat: There is much work to do to overcome self-applied pressure and other biases in any interaction. Hiding appearance may solve for some of this, but also prevents picking up on non-verbal cues of discomfort, exhaustion, excitement; which all have both short and long term considerations in building a safe space.
