In video calls, do you default to camera off or camera on? Why? Does it differ depending on who you’re meeting?

If we are familiar enough to call each other on phone, no camera needed. Funny how that is a rare thing now. If it’s a group, i.e., would have been an in person meeting — then camera on. Don’t believe the majority of workforce or technology has got to a point where we can eliminate the importance of our biology y

Caveat: There is much work to do to overcome self-applied pressure and other biases in any interaction. Hiding appearance may solve for some of this, but also prevents picking up on non-verbal cues of discomfort, exhaustion, excitement; which all have both short and long term considerations in building a safe space.
