Dumb question: what incentives exist for validators to process blocks on test networks like Goerli and Sepolia?

There are little to no incentives for the general public to process blocks on testnets. Those networks are provided mostly for free by the EF and the broader Ethereum community for testing. It's a public good.

Once a testnet currency is given value, with an easy and reliable bridge to ETH for instance, a validator on that testnet can be slightly incentivized to produce and process blocks in order to make money but it's mostly an unexpected and undesirable side-effect. Value on a testnet has a lot of bad consequences.
