+ where do prices come from?
+ where do laws come from?

Some priests in Mesopotamia were storing wheat in a warehouse or something and thought it’d be useful to start tallying it up on clay tablets for record-keeping. Then they realized they could tally more than just wheat. Instead of getting a new tablet for everything, they started drawing symbols. Those symbols turned into letters, which clumped together into words, and over time, became a whole language. And, amusingly enough, all that counting and tallying eventually turned into math.
