Ditto. Client diversity, that’s something we haven’t seen for a while in the social media space :)

My new AirPods Pro are a fucking disaster, however. The bastards won’t stay in my ears no matter what I do (yes I tried the 3rd party foam tips everyone loves.) Tried the non-Pros and they won’t stay in either.

My original retina MacBook Pro is still going (I won’t say “going strong”, but it’s definitely still going) after what now, 11 years? I skipped the Bad Keyboard Era entirely and couldn’t be happier.

I think the problem there is that hosting video is still expensive and difficult. When YouTube started it was prohibitively expensive and almost impossible, but they managed it and captured the market.

I use it for a couple of niche interests (the city I live in, r/Cocktails, couple of other hobby things) but it always annoys me it’s not Usenet. Because Usenet was a) universal, b) had better structure and c) had a FAQ culture a million times better than Reddit.

If I said “Turing Heat” would anyone get the reference? In any case, it can’t come too soon. Look at the bullshit we already got due to Cambridge Analytica.

Not in the sense that if you submitted a new web browser to the App Store they would expect you to have a content moderation team verifying all the pages your users viewed were free of “hate speech”. Popular consciousness doesn’t understand what a “protocol” is in 2023.

Yes! SodB had a lot of hype but I don’t think it was that great of a game. And Salamander was way better than R-Type.

The idea of “reporting users” is a category error on Farcaster and similar networks. It’s like “reporting” a web site.

No, not now since the client disappeared. I’m bullish on it long term, I think it has the right technical basis.

Everyone in this thread claiming Apple is “behind” technologically because they don’t support/enable NFTs or whatever: that is a laughable position. Apple has better things to do, like sell phones and laptops with processors that are 4-6 years ahead of the rest of the industry.

The APIs are already there (ARKit.) It’s just not as fun as it ought to be because you have to hold your phone out in front of you and look through its screen to test them.

Noting that this is an incredibly disingenuous “statement” from Twitter.

If you believe progress is basically a function of how much energy we can harness (sounds plausible to me), that’s been levelling off for a couple of decades. I hope we see a step-change in that (fusion? Something else?) in my lifetime.

Over what timescale? The state of the art in home computing went from the C64 to the Retina MacBook Pro from the 80s to the 2010s, but my 2011 rMBP was fine for a decade. That seems to be levelling out.
