There's something important in that Texas Hold 'Em story, which is that he had enough to continue buying more chips and doubling down. That means he wasn't playing with his risk, he was playing with their risk. "All-in" didn't mean "all-in" for him. 

And sorry, when the story literally ends with him taking chips off the table after he doubled down innumerably, you can't then say he "avoided taking chips off the table". 

Not to say he doesn't have a risk appetite, just that this story is an awkward and incoherent way to convey the point.

Yeah I mean, not really enough information to know, but it seemed to imply that he would simply buy-in with more than he'd lost (which isn't 2x each time but details smetails) until he was able to win. But if you're playing a flat-buy in you can't do that. So just even more vague handwaving to make this hold-em story about Elon's risk appetite

Surely this means he was down overall?  Obviously depending on how many chips he got each time... but if it was the same amount then he lost far more than he won (also depending what was in the final pot).
