One interesting take I saw about this is that Sam rejecting Elon's bid will likely make it even harder for him to take OpenAI private

Sam's trying to price the company around ~$40B, and by rejecting a nearly $100B offer, he's signaling that not only is OpenAI not worth $40B, but likely worth much more than $100B

Altman is trying to buy OpenAI for pennies on the dollar, and Elon is fucking with him.
