best tips for quieting a racing mind at night? recently tried to write (by hand) things down to clear out my mind but it had the opposite effect (created new ideas)

Breathing exercises help to regulate the nervous system which has a calming effect on the mind. Diaphragmatic or alternate nostril breathing helps promote balance and can allow for more restful sleep.
