Great article! Defining these kinds of mathematical constraints is exactly what makes UI engineering hard. It’s also why it’s in your best interest to master CSS, which excels over other layout engines at providing sane but flexible defaults so you don’t have to do all of this math yourself.

The "Let’s ask the lead designer what he thinks" part is literally what happened to /walletbeat's active section tracking 😢 (Which was conceptually similar to the "translate the trigger points" solution)

Funny because I'm literally also working on this exact problem for another project right now 🙃 We’ll bring it back even better with CSS scroll-linked animations once I get around to porting the nav to Svelte!
