When does Tech Debt matter in a startup?

Tech debt matters almost never as much as engineers want you to believe 😬. Tech debt is real, but unlike other types of debt, you can't have tech debt on something that doesn't exist, and unless you've found PMF, you don't exist. 

So, tech debt matters once you've reached PMF.

And even then as you expand and experiment, new tech debt once again doesn't matter until those expansions and experiments pay off.

Product velocity is incredibly important, especially if you don’t have PMF.

The way you make tradeoffs has to be different in the early days but if you can’t ship then you’re gonna stay dead
