I consider a masterpiece that work of art that leaves even its creator breathless. I believe Mikko stated that, even though he shoots a lot and takes his camera with him everywhere he goes, there are only two or three images that he is completely satisfied with during a year. Those are most likely the masterpieces.

Unsure if there is such a thing as a masterpiece. I think the best term is art is never finished only abandoned as stated by DaVinchi himself. So I am, you are, we are the creator (artist, builder, world maker) are the actual masterpiece and get to have iterations and stories of our lives placed out in the craft (which I believe everything is art) that one chooses to utilize as our set of tools during our present movements of existence here on earth and life we are leading. Processing our language and emotions into molding them into how “we’re” able to communicate with others and connect on even deeper levels.

In my understanding, when a person manages to enter a state of absolute synchronization with the space around them, it doesn't matter how: they have revealed a theme that was important to them, they have used their art to help others, and so on. This person has resonated so deeply that through them, as an instrument, the very essence of God—the Creator—manifests itself. I call this result a masterpiece.

A masterpiece to me is a work of art that will evoke emotions among a wide array of people, something they can't take their eyes (or ears) off. this has nothing to do with aesthetics or 'beauty' but with the energy a certain peace emits, what emotional reaction is being triggered. With a masterpiece, very often it's hard to describe what precisely makes it so good and therein lies the power. Also it's not a term that one would often use. In the art world there's only a very limited amount of masterpieces, in some genres/art categories maybe more than other.

A masterpiece is an old fashioned art term for a work completed by an artist at the top of their game. Or perhaps an artist who is now dead so suddenly ALL their works are deemed masterpieces to inflate their value... Is it possible for a living artist to produce a masterpiece? I am not sure. I reckon Damien Hirst thinks his Shark in Formaldehyde is one, or his Jewel Skull. Somehow I don't think Tracy Emin regards her tent as one. I think some of the definition of a "living masterpiece" rests on how big the artist's ego is. I reality I think a masterpiece is a piece of work that transcends its own time and resonates with future generations of viewers. May I suggest that any of Monet's Water Lilies could be considered masterpieces for this reason? How about Picasso's Guernica, Goya's The Third of May, Rothko's Black on Maroon? God, I sound like an art teacher...

Hey pkok! Let's go: For me, a masterpiece evokes emotion, whether it's good or bad, and it never goes unnoticed. It doesn't necessarily possess technical precision, but rather embodies feeling, heart, effort, dedication, courage, affection... I believe that a masterpiece cannot be truly recognized as such without standing the test of time. It transcends its era and remains timeless. My 2 cents 😅 😅

I’m not a fan of the term. Mostly because of the way it implies power over. But mastery, as I understand it in this context, involves intimacy and listening… to the materials, techniques, context, content. All work is collaboration. A piece of mastery, in my book, requires a virtuosity of vulnerability such that the artist reveals something of the art just as the art reveals something of the artist. They are changed by each other and responsive to each other.

I think a masterpiece is something that: evokes emotion in you, makes you think, expresses an idea or perspective, is technically advanced, and is the embodiment of a person's own style and way of life.

the word masterpiece defines an artifact that is the best of a series that an artist has worked on. In this regard I believe that there can be no masterpiece without a career. I do not believe that the emotions that arise from a work can define a masterpiece, but rather it is due to a practical act of the artist's work itself. For a nature photographer it can be the photograph of something very rare, which does not imply the beauty of the work itself but rather the achievement of a goal. The same can be said for any type or genre of artist who recognizes in a specific work the uniqueness that distinguishes it and that is almost unrepeatable.
