the benefit of tips IRL is that they are cash-in-hand and unmediated. I used to love working for tips because I knew I’d always have money in my pocket at the end of a shift. These social tips are just a points-distribution mechanism and they only vaguely relate to someday money (if they ever do a claim)

The thing about $degen and $enjoy tipping is that it’s not real

I think social tipping is an interesting idea, but ultimately it breaks social media IMO. This app interested me more without the added layer of $degen tipping, because communication that is incentivized by gain is inherently harder to trust and adds a layer of gamification that diminishes the social context.

the real flex for a collector isn’t a big $$$ acquisition, it’s having the knowledge, insight, patience, and awareness to acquire something that is hard to find.

the cool thing about collectors is people who’ve spent $1 and people who’ve spent $1000 are equally stoked to have collected something they like.

Today as I sat down to lunch with my wife, the chair literally exploded under me, sending food everywhere and leaving me rolling around trying to collect it all before the five-second-rule expired. If I had recorded it, I would share it here so you could have a good laugh.

this would be a good time to be able to fork yourself and run reality across 3-5 different timelines

The first movie really cut short the Liet Kynes arc, and just treated the terraforming project as a little sideshow. This not only sidelines a crucial part of the books, but also removes a big part of the Fremen story - that they were all on a multi-generational radical guerilla eco-rehab project.

There are people suited to it, and I think you have to self-assess whether that path would work. I do my best creative work with a stable routine and steady home/income situation, so I opted out of the art nomad party scene. FWIW, my favorite work of his is the work-for-hire stuff

yeah, I more or less got off the ride pretty early because I saw all my peers either living like this or floundering in grant-writing hell. Also, I realized I am too much of a normie family guy for that life.

It was disturbingly relatable and even at its most absurd I was like “yeah, sounds right”
