So the secret to generational wealth is finding old books and copying what’s in them. 🤔 I wish I’d known that 10 years ago.

At least it will bring Armin Hofmann the recognition he deserved...

Let's be honest, we're extremely "kind" to people using stuff like p5's noise() function, or other algorithms they barely understand. Dmitri actually understood what he was doing and let's also not diminish the work of turning a graphic design study into long form genart.

Plus, similar to Truchet tiling, Armin Hofman wasn't the only one who independently came up with this system. I honestly think people are making a way bigger deal about Ringers _because_ it was successful (as a long form project, not a gfx design study), than other "inspired" algorithms.

There's also the part, and it may not matter to you, but it does to me, if you look closely at Armin's images, you see that a couple of them could not have been generated by Ringer's algorithm, so Dmitri definitely did some original work there, polishing the algorithm.

But I'm asking myself, would it have been that successful if people were aware of the strong aesthetic link to Hofman's work? What was Ringer's contribution to the field of generative art and art in general?
